GARUDA WISNU KENCANA (GWK) the biggest statue in Indonesia, surpassing liberti statue, ready to be a tourist destination

The 121-meter Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue (GWK) was built on an area of ​​about 60 hectares in Ungasan Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali.

GWK height exceeds the statue of Liberty in America and the manufacturing process takes approximately 28 years. Naturally, I Nyoman Nuarta seemed very relieved when he saw his work was completed.

on August 4, 2018, a thanksgiving event entitled Swadharma Ning Pertiwi was held to celebrate the completion of the sculpture.

Swadharma Ning Pertiwi means someone's offering to the land of his birth. yes, this celebration and thanksgiving is a reminder of the long struggle of Nyoman Nuarta as a sculptor.

The plan, the statue of GWK will be inaugurated today, Wednesday, August 8, 2018, by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo. However, this plan was delayed until an undetermined time limit.

1. Four eras of the President

It took 28 years to complete the statue of Garuda Wisnu Kencana. This means that the development of GWK takes place in the four eras of the presidential leadership.

the idea of ​​building GWK came in 1989 when Nyoman Nuarta met with two ministers in the Soeharto era, namely Joop Ave and IB Sujana, and and the Governor of Bali, Ida Bagus Oka.

After being approved by President Soeharto in 1990, then land acquisition was carried out. groundbreaking was carried out in 1997.

The economic crisis and minimal funds made Nyoman sell 80 percent of capital ownership. After receiving an injection of funds, officially in 2013 the GWK began construction and was only completed in August 2018 in the Jokowi era.

GWK is a tourist park in Jimbaran, Badung Regency, Bali. this area is at an altitude of 146 meters above ground level or 263 above sea level.

In addition to the statue, in the park there is an open area of ​​4,000 square meters called "Lotus Pond".


3. Made from a mixture of copper and steel with welding techniques

gWK has 4,000 tons of copper and steel with a height of 75 meters and a width of 60 meters.

This statue will become the largest copper statue in the world which is done only by welding techniques and simple equipment.

there are 754 modules that are welded and arranged by artists to form a complete GWK statue.


4. Symbol of love for the earth and thanks

This GWK statue is a figure of Lord Vishnu who in Hinduism is the God of Preserver (Sthiti) while riding a Garuda bird. gWK is a symbol of the mission of saving the environment and the world.

Meanwhile, the ceremony "Swadharma Ning Pertiwi" will be held on Saturday (04/08/2018), as a thanksgiving for the completion of the statue of GWK.

Nyoman Nuarta will also thank 120 workers who worked together to build GWK.
